Project
The Agra Development Authority (ADA) is undertaking the development of a 138.5-hectare Greenfield Township around the KakuaāBhandai villages in Agra, India, known as the Atal Puram Township. This transformative initiative is envisioned to elevate the regionās urban landscape by integrating modern infrastructure with environmental sustainability. Further, the proximity of the Taj Mahal added a layer of complexity. Voyants Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has been appointed as the principal consultant for the preparation of the detailed layout plan, comprehensive design, and overall project management for all components of the township.
Ā Facts
- 29.3% reduction in earthwork through civil site design optimization using Bentley’s OpenRoad Deisgner.
- 21.5% improvement in flow rates, with 100% reduction in pressure drops and water losses, achieved vita utility network modeling in OpenFlows.
- 12.3% reduction in road length and 13.76% increase in traffic flow capacity, powered by traffic simulation and roadway design tools in OpenRoads.
"Bentley software plays a vital role in reducing costs across the entire infrastructure project lifecycle."

Solution
The benefits of using Bentley software were evident throughout the project. OpenRoads Designer’s 3D interface and BIM features allowed for complete road design and precise adjustments, enabling smoother information sharing and improved operational workflows. MicroStation’s advanced 3D interface and BIM-enabled workspace facilitated efficient handling of large files and provided multimodel spaces. The precise measurements of shear force and bending moment provided by STAAD.Pro ensured accurate structural designs. Also, the team used OpenGround to understand the subsurface profile and predict seepages.
OpenFlows was utilized to analyze and design wet utilities, as well as optimize the design of water distribution networks, sewerage systems, and stormwater systems, leading to increased efficiency, reduced material and construction costs, and lower emissions.
The advantages of Bentley software extended beyond design and modeling. The implementation of SYNCHRO proved highly beneficial, influencing the design process and overall project execution. SYNCHRO 4Dās BIM platform allowed for the creation of a virtual representation of the market yard, enhancing visualization capabilities and facilitating informed design decisions. Furthermore, the software’s clash detection functionality efficiently identified conflicts, minimizing rework and ensuring project progress. By integrating the construction schedule with the 3D model, SYNCHRO optimized construction sequencing, identified potential bottlenecks, and improved project coordination. Resource management features ensured optimal allocation of resources, while real-time progress tracking enabled proactive monitoring of milestones and timely identification of potential delays.
The integration of Bentley software facilitated collaboration and communication among project stakeholders, reducing gaps and streamlining interactions.
Outcome
By integrating third-party GIS platforms with MicroStation CAD software, the team finalized the land use and created a live model. The open modeling environment provided by OpenRoads Designer and ProjectWise enabled seamless data sharing. OpenRoads played a key role in road and site grading design by supporting construction-driven engineering and providing essential information for functional processes, enabling a 12.3% reduction in road length and a 13.76% increase in traffic flow capacity. 29.3% reduction in earthwork compared to traditional methods. The team also saw flow rates improved by 21.5%, as well as 100% reduction in pressure drops and in water losses.
